Oh, Fall. That time of year when the air feels crisper, the hoodies start to come out, and pumpkin spice returns to coffee shops everywhere. For better or worse.
It’s my favorite time of year for all these reasons….maybe you too. Which is why if we’re not careful, it can also be an expensive time. (Those PSLs add up. And they cost more right now simply because it’s September. Those evil geniuses.)
Some ways that I’m watching my wallet as I get ready for spooky season:
- Making an occasion of my pumpkin spice lattes. If I buy them, it’s because I’m prepared to fully indulge in every sip of the experience – while ideally doing some other Fall-adjacent activity. I haven’t even had my first one yet, and don’t plan to for a few more weeks.
- Stocking up on Fall supplies at home. Next time I’m at the grocery store, I’ll pick up a Fall-flavored creamer or syrup to add to my at-home rotation. Much more affordable than buying a pumpkin or pecan-flavored beverage everytime the mood strikes (which in the Fall, feels like every day).
- Spending time outside to enjoy Fall. Watching the leaves change is free, gang. Being outside in a hoodie and booties to enjoy the cooler temps? Also free. Going on hikes, walking through parks, watching other people pick pumpkins or apples….you catch my drift. Fall enjoyment needn’t come from spending money on PSLs and all the pumpkin-flavored snacks from Trader Joes! It can be savored for free
- Avoiding Trader Joes like the plague. Because on the rare occasion I go in there, I often leave with some new snack I didn’t know I needed.
While I’m not quite ready for summer to end, I’m grateful for what it was. And looking forward to the flavor profiles and change that Fall brings.
